Fun with words

My car has one of those dashboard panels that tells you info about the car. The other day it informed me that the door was ajar. I said, "the door is ajar," in a robotic voice and Sebastian repeated it. When I laughed he said, "the jar is a door." I laughed harder, so he started to really improvise. Some of my favorites:

"The tree is a sign."
"The house is a car."
"The shoe is a bus."

He's continued to work this new shtick into many a car ride since.

Wish I had a picture of this!

We were decorating the Christmas tree this past Sunday and Sebastian was sitting on the step stool, which has a tall handle to carry it when it's folded. He held onto the handle and pushed off of the seat so that he was dangling, monkey style, from the stool. He then declared, with pride:

"I'm an ornament!"

Filthy, but cute!

We went camping with friends this weekend and Sebastian had one heck of a good time playing with his buddies (especially Alex). He and Alex found a puddle after a good rain storm and played with their truck in the mud, which resulted in this picture.

Then, he and Daddy had a couple suckers. While Daddy was holding his sucker in his hand, Seb clicked his own sucker against Daddy's and yelled "cheers!" So cute! Here's a pic of that!

Lastly, they did some sword fighting with their sucker sticks.

Compliments

I was putting in my contacts one morning this week and this is the conversation we had when Sebastian came into the room.

S: You putting your eyes in?
M: Yup
*I finished putting in the contacts
S: You look great! (in a very enthusiastic voice, I might add)

Sucking Up

At 3 years of age, he has learned the art of sucking up! We were at my parents' house for dinner on Wednesday and Sebastian kept biting on his piece of corn on the cob and holding it in his mouth with no hands. Tim told him that we don't eat our corn that way and to use his hands several times before taking the corn away from him. Seb was quite upset about the loss of his corn and whined for a bit before abruptly stopping and coming over to Tim's side.

Seb: Daddy, I love you
Tim: Thanks Bub, I love you too
Seb: You my friend
Tim: You're my friend too
Seb: I have my corn now?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! It was soooo funny!

In the end, he was allowed to have some corn on a plate that had been cut off the cob, but was not allowed to have the cob.

Birthdays and Pukeys and Sharing... Oh My!

Last Monday was Sebastian's 3rd birthday. He was so excited about it, for the first time ever! I woke him up on Monday singing "Happy Birthday" and he said, "It's my birthday? Where is it?" LOL He thought there would be a visual of some variety.

On Father's Day we let Tim sleep in and Seb and I headed out to Meijer to do our gift shopping... Yeah, I'm a last minute kind of gal... Anyway, we had been there approximately 6 minutes when Seb threw up all over me, himself, and aisle 12. So, I bought some wipes and a clean outfit for him (thanking God he only got my shoes and the edge of my capris) and headed to the check out and then, the restroom. Luckily, he was fine after he got sick; I think he just ate something that wouldn't agree with him. Anyway, his version of what happened is simple and direct...

"My throat came out."

After the puke fiasco we went on with our shopping. Sebastian wanted to get daddy a car for Father's Day. So, we went to the Hot Wheels aisle (hey, I'm on a budget here). He picked out a nice yellow truck and trailer. Later on, after he had given the gift to daddy, he wanted to play with it. I said, "Buddy, that gift was for Daddy." He said, "Daddy will share with me."

Mommy got Pwned!

So... It's been a while since I posted, so we'll kick this off with a bang!

We are on our way to Frankenmuth for some yummy chicken dinner and we bought a couple sodas and $0.99 bags of chips for the road. Sebastian and I shared my kettle cooked Lays and when those were gone, he started sharing daddy's jalapeno cheetos. After a couple cheetos, I decided that he'd had enough... This conversation ensued:
Seb: I have more of daddy chips.
Me: No, daddy's chips are all gone now.
Seb: all gone? Lemme see.
Me (holding up my empty chip bag): See?
Seb: Lemme see the front
*so, I showed him the front*
Seb: That not daddy's chip! That mama's!

Needless to say, Tim and I burst into laughter and Seb earned himself one more chip! LOL!

Yeses and Nos and Things That Make Me Go Awwww!

Me: Seb, it's time to go home.
Seb: Certainly not!

Me: Do you want to read a story?
Seb: Actually, yes.

*Seriously, where does he come up with this stuff!

Last week we were putting him to bed and he snuggled up in my arms and said, "you my best friend Mama!" Gush much?

Thursday night he was running errands with Nana and Papa and he was in his carseat in the back. He folded his legs up in front of himself so that the flats of his feet were pressed together and said, "I made a triangle!"

Seb: Where's Grammy?
Me: At her house.
Seb: No, it Sid's house! (Sid is the family dog)

*Conni says if it's Sid's house he better start chipping in on the bills!

A couple pictures from the past week...

We've been sick around here this week, so we haven't had too many hilarious pronouncements from the little man, but here are a few cute photos!

We went to the hands on museum last weekend with a friend and I snapped this one while he was checking out the complete ambulance exhibit (which he thought was rather cool).I cannot believe how grown up he looks here!!!!! :(
Photobucket

Here are Seb and Farrah at her birthday party yesterday. I was taking pictures of Farrah in her new dress, which I made her, but Seb had to join in the action!
Photobucket

We went to Jamboozies Bar and Grill on Thursday for Dr. Seuss's birthday celebration. Seb got his face painted with the Old English D, so here is a shot of his cheek, and one of him and Daddy.

Playing Catch Up!

It's been a crazy couple of weeks around the Houle house! I was accepted to nursing school for the spring '11 term and had two days of intense orientation at the school. Our garage roof, which has been threatening failure for ages, finally produced a big old hole two days before the great 2011 blizzard. We found out we were not getting a tax refund this year, but instead owe $130 to the state, so fixing the garage with anything other than a patch is out of the question for a bit. A friend lost her father two months after her mother passed. And, finally, Tim's windshield wiper mechanism went kaput on the eve of the second blizzard of the year! Gah! Anyway, here are a couple gems I've been saving for posting.

Both of these have to do with his "but why" obsession in differing, hilarious, ways!

Sebastian: Where we going?
Mama: To papa's house.
Sebastian: But why?
Mama: Because mama needs to work.
Sebastian: But why?
Mama: Because I need to make money.
Sebastian: But why?
Mama: I don't know, what do you think?
Sebastian: No! I no wanna think!

Sebastian: Fireworks!
Mama: I don't see any fireworks.
Sebastian: Yeah!
Mama: It's a little early in the year for fireworks buddy.
Sebastian: But why?
Mama: Because people don't usually do fireworks until the fourth of July.
Sebastian: But why?
Mama: Because they like to celebrate America's independence.
Sebastian: But why?
Mama: Umm, I don't know.
Sebastian: Try "because"
Mama: You mean you want me to say "because"?
Sebastian: Yes
Mama: OK, because.
Sebastian: But why?
Mama (laughing now): You crack me up!
Sebastian (laughing too): You crack me down!

Fashion Forward or Fashion Victim?

Sebastian had an un-nap today, by which I mean that I put him down for a nap and heard him playing quietly in his room for approximately 2 hours before I gave up and let him out... I did try to go in and get him to sleep a couple times and he may have dozed for all of 10 minutes, but mainly he played and since he was quiet, I figured at least he had some down time... Nonetheless, he is two and a half, so I shouldn't have been surprised to see that he had donned a new wardrobe by the time I came in to get him. Here is how I found him... He was quite proud of himself!

Shoo Fly Returns!

Last night Sebastian found a flashlight and was playing with it. When he turned it on and saw the light on the ceiling he got all excited and started shouting, "Shoo fly!!! I catch it!!!" He played with the flashlight for about 30 minutes. He was totally enamored! Here is a picture of him and one of the "shoo fly."

A Day in Our Life!

Here's how we spent the day on Saturday!

Tim had to work :( so Sebastian and I were on our own for the morning... Unfortunately, Seb decided that we should wake up at 6 am!!! So, I convinced him to chill in our bed with some milk and blueberries and a DVD while I attempted to wake up.
Photobucket

Then, it was time to get dressed...
Photobucket

... and play with some trains.
Photobucket

Then it was time to head out to run some errands.
Photobucket

Sebastian decided he wanted to get into his carseat by himself, "I do it Mama!"
Photobucket
Photobucket

Success!
Photobucket

First, we went to the post office and mailed out our Christmas cards... Yes, you read that right! It has been a little nutty around here since Christmas and it took a while for me to get to the post office and remember to buy the darn stamps!
Photobucket

Next, we went to the Salvation Army to drop of a few bags of old clothes.
Photobucket

And then we stopped at McDonald's for lunch. This is not exactly a postcard for our fine Michigan weather!
Photobucket

We got home and Sebastian ate some chicken nuggets and played with some trains, and I got thoroughly discouraged with the advanced state of yuck in the living room...
Photobucket

We stopped to take a photo of each other... Then I got to work cleaning!
Photobucket

Here are a couple views of Sebastian playing and the disaster that was my living room!
Photobucket

In case you're curious, we were watching Food Network!
Photobucket

Here is the after!!! (finished while Seb was napping)
Photobucket
Photobucket

And my reward for a job well done!
Photobucket

Then, the "Sebashmonster" was awakened! So, he and Daddy shared a snack!
Photobucket

We spent the rest of the evening playing and had leftovers for dinner, but I didn't take pics of that... Here is my favorite pic of the day!
Photobucket

Then it was bath time!!!!
Photobucket

He wasn't fond of dry off and get dressed time...
Photobucket
Photobucket

Then we read books and went to bed!
Photobucket

Thanks for sharing our day with us!

Sebashmonster!!!

Aunt Bee took Sebastian to see GiGi today and, evidently, on the way there he was growling and exclaiming that he was a monster. Aunt Bee said, "I thought you were Sebastian?" To which he replied, "I Sebashmonster... ARGHHH!"

Trains, Empathy, and Full Frontal Snow Belly Floppers!

This week as I was getting ready for work, I heard Sebastian playing in the hall with his trains. He was singing as he played and, unsurprisingly, his song of choice was "The Wheels on the Bus." However, he made some changes... This is what I heard:

"The wheels on the... TRAIN go round and round..." Complete with the pause for effect!

Photobucket

Then, on our way to work we were having a chat about why he needed to go to Grammy & Grandpa's house (Tim's parents). He is big into the "whys" lately, so here is how that one went:

Me: You are going to hang out with Grammy today!
Sebastian: But why-y? (He makes the why a two syllable word every time!)
Me: Because Mama has to go to work.
Sebastian: But why-y?
Me: Because I have to make money.
Sebastian: But why-y?
Me: So I can pay the bills.
Sebastian: But why-y? (You are probably wondering why I've let this go on so long but I always swore I would try really hard to encourage my child's curiosity, so there ya go!)
Me: Because if I didn't pay the bills the companies would not have enough money to pay their employees and people would lose their jobs and that would be sad.
Sebastian: Oh no.

Today, we had a snow day. We, like much of the US were blanketed in the beautiful, though somewhat annoying, white stuff. Sebastian and I decided to spend a bit of our morning out in the fluff. He really wanted to make a snowman, but sadly, the snow was not of snowman-making quality. He was a little upset, so I taught him how to make snow angels instead. He quite liked that and informed me that the angel, "has wings!" with great amazement! However, what he really enjoyed was standing up in a fresh patch of snow, then falling forward, face first into a drift! He thought that was the greatest part of the day! When we went inside he was really bummed, in fact he was so not going to go in at all... So, I told him he could have some snow in a bowl with his lunch! He loved it!

Here are a couple more pics!

A Game Called "Shoo Fly"

Today we went down to Greektown to celebrate Uncle Dave's birthday at Pizza Papalis. On the way back home Sebastian started yelling, "Shoo fly! Shoo fly!" I couldn't figure out what he was talking about because we don't get a lot of flies in Michigan in mid-January. Then, my dad informed me that this is a game he and Seb play in the car. Papa has taught Sebastian that the little circles of light that sometimes move around in the car from light bouncing off rings and other such shiny objects are called "shoo flies." So, when Sebastian sees them he shouts "Shoo Fly" and he and Papa try to "catch" them! It was seriously the cutest thing ever!

He was also serenading us with his version of "The Wheels on the Bus," which includes such lines as:

"The corn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep"
"The daddies on the bus say please sit down..."
"The bus on the bus goes bum, bum, bum"

The Houle's Down in Houle-ville

I figured it was high time I found a way to keep in touch with the family and friends who keep bugging me for pics and stories about Sebastian. So, I decided to start a blog. My main goal here is to share pictures and anecdotes about life with our little man... To that end, here are a couple recent gems and a fairly recent photo!

Sebastian (commenting on his Thomas the Tank Engine):He's a really good chugger. He stays on the tracks!

Sebastian on being agreeable
Me: You are being contrary.
Sebastian: No.

Sebastian (after falling): I OK! Don't worry!

Now for the picture... This one is totally stolen from my SIL, Beth, and is from Christmas. I promise to keep up on the photos!
